Ski/Board - Snowboarding Blacks

Category Ski/Board

Snowboarding is infamous for being made up of rebels and riders!  And what a ride it’s been! Initially, Snowboarding was banned at all resorts until Stratton Mountain, VT, USA, opened its slopes in 1983.  What’s the risk?  According to one study, 27.4% of all snowboarders at one Winter Olympics walked off with an injury.  Snowboarders are up to 70% more likely to get injured than skiers.  However, the fatality rate for snowboarders is less than half that for Skiers! What does that tell you?

One of the most remarkable feats was accomplished by Norwegian Mads Jonsson, who set the record for the longest jump on a snowboard, soaring an astonishing 57 meters (187 feet) in Hemsedal, Norway. Another jaw-dropping achievement was Frenchman Edmond Plawczyk's record for the fastest speed on a snowboard, clocking an incredible 203 km/h (126 mph). These milestones showcase the daring spirit and skill of snowboarding athletes.

FICOR score is based on XDGE's proprietary scoring system

Minimum score to be considered for XDGE is 50, and the maximum is 100. This FICOR score is based on available data combined with XDGE's proprietary scoring system which weights several factors based on importance, including: insurance risk scores for the particular activity being evaluated, reaction time available as an adverse event unfolds, speed, height, depth, technical difficulty, ability to mitigate risk during activity, availability of backup equipment, involvment of other participants, location of activity, mental focus required, outcome resulting of most mishaps such as death or hospitalization, and a determination of the likelihood of having a major accident if that sport is done frequently.
